Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical treatment done to remove wisdom teeth, four permanent molar teeth located at the top and bottom back corners of the mouth, which usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25. The extraction of wisdom tooth is done, when the molar teeth that don’t erupt normal into the mouth. If the wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow, it will grow at any angle towards the next tooth, or back of mouth. In some cases, it partially emerged with the gum, and even remains trapped beneath the gum and bone, which resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems.
Prior to your wisdom tooth extraction, Dr. Mujib Ashrafi will make you feel comfortable by applying appropriate anesthesia and apply a substance to the gums to numb the extraction site.
Firstly our doctor will make an incision in the gum to expose the tooth and bone by creating a flap to it and removes any bone that blocks access to the tooth. May divides the tooth into sections if it's easier to remove in pieces. Clean the extraction tooth site and apply stitches to promote healing. Gauze is placed over the extraction site to control bleeding. For 24 hours take rest and don’t do any strenuous activity, avoid brushing your teeth, rinse your mouth, or spit, that may result in dislodging the blood clot from the socket.
For Swelling and bruising apply ice pack to the cheeks. After the surgery recovery and healing takes about three to five days. For a few days, avoid spicy, hard, and chewy foods. Drink plenty of water and rinse your mouth with warm salt water after having your meals for a week. Our doctor will prescribe the appropriate pain medicine and provide with you a proper follow up plan.
